Whatever we might feel or think about God's involvement in our suffering, we cannot say He is distant and distracted. God has given us limited strength. They believe each individual church represents a certain era in history leading up to the rapture of the church. This may be a yet future experience, but I like to think that this indicates that some of those that were hostile toward the church came to salvation through the testimony of these faithful Christians even in the face of persecution. For this reason He can declare: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. for God is on your side. In his role, he controlled access to the top leader. Let's start living or keep living trusting that's truebecause wonderfully, it is! When we are being slandered or marginalized, or rebuffed and rejected, in whatever way, it is tempting to forgot the love of Jesus in the face of the world's lovelessness. As we think about this beautiful message from Jesus to His followers in ancient Philadelphia, I think we are reminded, just as we were with the letter to Smyrna, that Christ wants to help us through seasons of suffering. That does not mean we are perfect, but instead that we are aware of our weaknesses and flaws and that we are each redeemed sinners at different stages of growth and spiritual maturity, but I see in you that desire to remain faithful to Gods Word and to obey it and to be faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ. He can take you away from the danger. It is this same Lord who has set the Christians in this outpost city before an open door which no one is able to shut. We know very little about this church, like many of the churches in this book. We also see in 5:5 and 22:16 that Jesus is called the root of David.
But what does He mean when he says he has the key of David? Here the context is most certainly one of comfort. They would gladly give their lives rather than deny the One who had died for them. And so, keeping these things in mind, if we move onto the danger to consider, we discover that, just like we saw with the letter to the church in Smyrna in 2:8-11, this church is given no warning. Philadelphia is the only church to receive a praise. Life can be a maze of options, choices, decisions and goals. (Revelation 3:7 NIV) In all the other letters, our Lord uses symbols to describe himself that come from the vision John had of him, recorded in Chapter 1.
